Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
China warmly welcomes the delegation of Ukraine. We are greatly honored to have H.E. President Yushchenko to address this important session of the General Council.
We congratulate Ukraine on the successful conclusion of its long accession negotiations. As a Member that also experienced 15 years’ negotiating history, China fully understands how difficult the journey is towards the WTO. We therefore commend the tremendous efforts that Ukraine has made in the course of accession to the WTO. The Protocol, the Working Party Report and the goods and services schedules adopted by the General Council today fully demonstrate Ukraine’s strong determination of integrating itself into the multilateral trading system. It is also a great contribution to the world trading system as well. Ukraine plays an important role in world trade and economy. With its entry into the WTO, this organization makes a giant step forward towards universality. We are ready to work closely with our Ukrainian colleagues in the WTO. As all other Delegations, we give credit to the Chair of the Working Party Ambassador Mario Matus, his predecessors, and the WTO Secretariat for their valuable contribution and assistance in bringing the accession negotiations to a successful conclusion.
Before concluding, Mr. Chairman, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all the ongoing accession negotiations, especially those of LDCs and those at more advanced stages, to be completed at an earlier date.
I thank you, Mr. Chairman.
